I was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi and came to Southern California with my family at about 5 years old. Over the years, my brother and I would return to the South during the summer and I'd watch my auntie making magic in the kitchen.
My aunt would make greens, turkey, yams, roast, ham, string beans, macaroni and cheese, corn bread, cakes, pies and peach cobblers. She loved to cook and I loved to help.
